My discipline is Computer Science. This field is large and relatively new amongst the sciences. Within this field, the subfield that interests me most is Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI has offered strong promises since its infancy in the 1950s, yet we are finally starting to see its usefulness surface within society: from autonomous vehicle navigation (cars, aircraft, mars rovers), a myriad of recognition systems (speech, face, hand-writing, eye, etc), anomaly detection (detecting when components are starting to fail, detecting fraudulent or suspicious behavior), game playing (such as chess system Deep Blue), classification schemes, and even prediction systems related to stock markets or suggesting products that shoppers might be interested in buying.

Specifically, the areas within/related to AI that interests me the most are Natural Language Processing, Animats-Based Learning, Data Mining, and Statistical Machine Learning at large. Basically, if there is a need to create/train a system to learn something in order to help humans, it will likely spark my interest, at least to some degree.

Here are some of the projects I've worked on during my undergraduate and graduate careers.
