MYANMAR — SMALL TOWNS
In 2015, I spent 3 months backpack travelling solo throughout SouthEast Asia. I visited Myanmar for 21 days for what would be my first time there. After spending 4 days in the busy city of Yangon, I took trains, buses, and a random ride in a truck filled with produce to visit smaller towns throughout the country. I was made aware of a Buddhist monastery that sat atop of a large mountain, and that it's possible to frequent it and spend the night. Doing so proved to be an unforgettable experience.
In a different town, I met a fellow backpacker, Helena from Norway, and we hiked with a local guide for 3 days (45 miles) from one town to another. I highly enjoyed being able to see see a glimpse of Myanmar, and a decade later, it still provides me with some of my fondest memories.
